Safeguarding Policy

1. Introduction

Drama Club Salisbury is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children attending the club. This policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding and the procedures we follow to protect children from harm.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this safeguarding policy is to:

  • Protect children and young people who attend the drama club.

  • Provide staff and volunteers with the overarching principles that guide our approach to safeguarding.

 

3. Scope

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, and anyone working on behalf of Drama Club Salisbury.

4. Key Principles

  • The welfare of the child is paramount.

  • All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation, or identity, have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.

  • Working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers, and other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare.

 

5. Roles and Responsibilities

5.1. Safeguarding Lead

  • The Safeguarding Lead is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy and handling any safeguarding concerns.

  • Current Safeguarding Lead: Rosie Burgess, 07841394485.

5.2. Staff and Volunteers

  • All staff and volunteers must read, understand, and adhere to this policy.

  • Attend regular training on safeguarding and child protection.

  • Be vigilant and report any concerns about a child's welfare to the Safeguarding Lead.

 

6. Safe Recruitment

  • All staff and volunteers must undergo a thorough vetting process including:

  • Completion of an application form.

  • An interview.

  • Provision of two references.

  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

 

7. Code of Conduct

  • Treat all children with respect and dignity.

  • Always work in an open environment, avoiding private or unobserved situations.

  • Maintain a safe and appropriate distance with children (e.g., it is not appropriate to have an intimate relationship with a child).

  • Avoid physical contact with children unless necessary for safety or instructional purposes.

  • Never make derogatory remarks or gestures towards children.

 

8. Responding to Allegations of Abuse

  • Any allegation or concern regarding the abuse of a child must be taken seriously and reported to the Safeguarding Lead immediately.

  • The Safeguarding Lead will follow the procedure for reporting to local authorities and will ensure that appropriate action is taken.

  • All information must be handled confidentially and shared only with those who need to know.

 

9. Reporting Procedures

  • Staff and volunteers should record any concerns, observations, or disclosures in writing using the club's safeguarding report form.

  • The report should be submitted to the Safeguarding Lead as soon as possible.

 

10. Training and Support

  • All staff and volunteers will receive an induction, including training on safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Ongoing training will be provided to ensure that everyone remains informed and up-to-date with current safeguarding practices.

 

11. Health and Safety

  • A risk assessment will be conducted before any new activity or event to ensure the safety of children.

  • Emergency contact details and medical information for each child must be up-to-date and accessible.

  • The venue will be regularly checked for hazards and maintained to ensure a safe environment.

 

12. Monitoring and Review

  • This policy will be reviewed annually or in response to any significant changes in legislation or best practice.

  • Feedback from staff, volunteers, children, and parents will be sought to continually improve our safeguarding measures.
